As members of the Australian Labradoodle Association (ALA), we are required to adhere to a comprehensive set of rules, regulations and ethical breeding standards. These include extensive health and genetic testing of our breeding dogs, careful selection of breeding pairs, pedigree recording, breeding restrictions and strict requirements surrounding the care and welfare of our dogs and puppies.
Before a dog can be registered as a breeding dog with the ALA, we must submit the required health testing results and documentation to the Association for assessment. This means there is an additional level of accountability, with breeders required to provide evidence that their dogs meet the Association's health testing requirements.
The ALA has spent decades working to protect and improve the Australian Labradoodle, and its breeding requirements are designed to promote healthy dogs, sound temperaments and responsible and ethical breeding practices for generations to come.
The total cost for a Livy Lou Labradoodle puppy is $4400. Once we have accepted your application and offered you a place on our priority waitlist for your chosen litter, we ask for a $500 reservation fee to be paid. This is deducted off the balance of the puppy purchase price, which is due in full when the puppies are 6 weeks old.
Our puppies come from top quality multi-generational Australian Labradoodle bloodlines. All of our puppies come registered with the Australian Labradoodle Association and come with a certificate of pedigree.
The DNA profiling and health screening of our breeding dogs enables us to offer a 2 year genetic health guarantee. We also have all of our breeding dogs hips and elbows x-rayed and evaluated by internationally renown specialists to limit the risk of your puppy developing hip or elbow dysplasia.
It is our mission, as much as we can control, to produce puppies that will live a long happy and healthy life.
At 6 weeks old our puppies are taken to the vet for a comprehensive health check. At the same time they are microchipped and will be given their first vaccination.
Puppies are ready to go to their forever home when they are 8 weeks of age.
We take out a pet insurance policy for all Livy Lou Labradoodle puppies with Knose Pet Insurance. This policy is active when you receive your puppy. You will be given the option to transfer this policy into your name for continuoity of coverage.
We follow the Puppy Culture Curriculum. Raising resilient, well-adjusted puppies doesn't happen by chance. Its something we intentionally build into every single day of their early lives.
In their first few weeks of your puppies life, we routinely perform a series of gentle exercises known as ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation), which are designed to help develop their senses and resilience. As soon as their little ears are open and they are able to hear, we introduce a wide variety of everyday sounds in a safe and controlled way. This includes household noises like vacuums, washing machines, and kitchen clatter, as well as more unpredictable sounds such as recorded thunderstorms and fireworks. These are always introduced gradually and at a low volume first, paired with calm, positive experiences like feeding or cuddles, so that the puppies learn that these sounds are nothing to fear.
Our puppies are gently and regularly touched all over - paws, ears, mouths and all over their bodies - helping them become more comfortable with grooming, vet checks, and everyday human interaction. We begin early exposure to tools like clippers and brushes, allowing them to feel vibrations and hear unfamiliar noises in a non-threatening way.
As they grow, we expand their environment. Different surfaces, new textures and small obstacles are introduced to encourage curiosity, problem-solving skills and independence. We start early routine building - introducing sleep areas in an open crate, which sets the foundations in place for later crate training, and toilet zones.
Everything we do is based on creating positive associations. The result is puppies that are emotionally resilient, desensitised and adaptable, and ready to thrive in their new homes.
After extensive research, we have carefully selected food of the highest quality to nourish our puppies and support them through the early stages of growth. We believe nutrition is the foundation of a healthy start in life, playing an essential role in their development, digestion, energy levels and overall wellbeing.
Dogs thrive on a biologically appropriate diet made with fresh, natural ingredients, including muscle meat, organ meats and bones, complemented by smaller amounts of fruit and vegetables. We favour minimally processed foods that are raw, gently cooked, freeze-dried or air-dried, helping to preserve the natural goodness and nutritional value of the ingredients.
We do not feed any of our puppies or breeding dogs kibble, which undergoes high-heat extrusion, stripping away nearly all natural vitamins, minerals and amino acids, requiring synthetic nutrients to be sprayed back onto the product to meet minimum nutritional requirements. Most kibble formulas rely on significant amounts of carbohydrates, such as grains, corn, peas or potatoes, which act as a binder and filler, but offer no nutritional benefit to your dog.
A lifetime of eating nothing but ultra-processed dry pet food contributes to chronic inflammation, gut dysfunction, dental disease and metabolic disorders.

The Australian Labradoodle has been carefully bred to combine the best qualities of the Labrador Retriever, Poodle, and a smaller percentage of Cocker Spaniel. Unlike early Labradoodle crosses, the Australian Labradoodle has been carefully refined over decades to ensure predictable traits in temperament, coat, and structure.
Temperament
Australian Labradoodles are known for being:
Friendly and sociable
Gentle and affectionate
Highly intelligent and trainable
Calm and intuitive
Strong desire to be part of the family
Potential for therapy and assistant dog
They thrive on human interaction and are happiest when included in daily life. Early socialisation and training help them grow into confident, well-rounded dogs.
Coat & Allergy-Friendly Qualities
One of the most loved features of the Australian Labradoodle is its low to non-shedding coat which can be:
Fleece (soft and silky, either wavy or curly)
Wool (denser, more like a Poodle coat)
While no dog is completely hypoallergenic, many families who suffer from allergies find Australian Labradoodles to be a suitable choice due to their low shedding and minimal dander.
Regular grooming is essential to maintain coat health and prevent matting.
Size & Appearance
Australian Labradoodles come in three main sizes:
Miniature: approx. 7–13kg
Medium: approx. 13–20kg
Standard: approx. 20–30kg
They are well-balanced, athletic dogs with a soft, expressive face and a signature “teddy bear” appearance.
Health & Lifespan
When well bred, Australian Labradoodles are generally healthy dogs with a lifespan of around 12–15 years.
Ethical breeders screen for genetic conditions and only breed dogs that meet strict health and temperament standards.
Exercise & Lifestyle
Australian Labradoodles are adaptable and suit a variety of lifestyles, from active families to more relaxed households. They enjoy:
Daily walks
Playtime and enrichment
Training and mental stimulation
They are not typically suited to being left alone for long periods, as they are highly people-oriented dogs.
Grooming Needs
Regular coat care is essential for Australian Labradoodles to keep them comfortable and looking their best.
A typical grooming routine includes:
Brushing: 2 times per week to prevent knots and matting
Professional grooming: Every 3 months for clipping and coat maintenance
Bathing: As required
Nail trimming: Every few weeks
Establishing a grooming routine from a young age helps puppies learn to enjoy the process and makes ongoing care much easier

Understanding Australian Labradoodle Coat Colour Genetics 🐾
When learning about Australian Labradoodles, you may come across genetic codes like BbEe or bbee.
These codes help explain your dog’s coat colour and what colours they may pass on to their puppies.
Let’s keep it simple!
The Two Main Gene Pairs
1. B/b – Black or Chocolate Pigment
This gene determines whether a dog has black or chocolate pigment.
BB = Black pigment, does not carry chocolate
Bb = Black pigment, carries chocolate
bb = Chocolate pigment
This doesn’t necessarily mean your dog will have a black or chocolate coat. It simply tells us which pigment they carry.
2. E/e – Whether the Pigment Shows
This gene determines whether the black or chocolate pigment appears in the coat or is hidden by a yellow coat which includes cream, apricot or red colour.
EE = Black or chocolate coat, no yellow masking
Ee = Black or chocolate coat, but carries yellow
ee = Black or chocolate pigment is masked, resulting in a yellow (cream, apricot or red) coat
Yellow (Cream, apricot and red coats) all have the ee combination. Other genes influence how light or dark the colour is, from pale cream to deep red.
How Do They Work Together?
An easy way to remember:
🎨 B/b determines the underlying pigment colour.
🐾 E/e determines whether that pigment shows in the coat.
Let's Look at Some Examples
BBEE - Black coat. Will only ever produce black puppies
BBEe - Black coat, carries yellow. Will mostly produce black coat puppies, sometimes yellow depending on pairing, no chocolate
BBee - Yellow coat with black pigment. Will produce black or yellow puppies depending on pairing, no chocolate
BbEe - Black coat, carries chocolate. Can produce black, chocolate or yellow puppies depending on pairing
Bbee - Yellow coat with black pigment. Carries chocolate. Can produce black, chocolate or yellow puppies depending on pairing.
bbEE - Chocolate coat and pigment. Doesn't carry yellow. Will only produce black or chocolate puppies, never yellow.
bbEe - Chocolate coat and pigment. Carries yellow. Can produce black, chocolate or yellow puppies depending on pairing.
bbee - Yellow coat with chocolate pigment. Can produce black, chocolate or yellow puppies depending on pairing.
Understanding these genes helps us predict possible puppy colours and explains why two dogs can produce puppies with different coat colours!
At Livy Lou Labradoodles, we are not a kennel, nor do we ever intend to be. Our Guardian Family Program allows our breeding dogs to live a wonderful life as a cherished pet with a forever family, while playing a meaningful role in raising the next generation of exceptionally bred Australian Labradoodles.
How the Guardian Program Works
A guardian family is given a breeding quality top pick puppy at a significantly reduced cost.
Our guardian families are responsible for:
Daily care, grooming and exercise
Feeding a premium diet (budget approx $5 per day)
Ongoing training and socialisation
Routine worming and flea/tick prevention
Maintain active pet insurance policy
General veterinary expenses not related to breeding
As the breeder we are responsible for:
All breeding-related costs
Health testing specific to breeding requirements
Breeding Commitments
The commitments differ slightly for males and females:
Female Dogs
Have a maximum of 3 litters of puppies
The girl remains with her guardian family for most of her pregnancy, coming to us approximately 1 week before her due date and staying until puppies are weaned at approximately 6 to 7 weeks. Many of our guardian families find this is an ideal time to take a holiday without needing to organise a pet-sitter.
Male Dogs
Required only on an 'as needed' basis for mating a few times a year
Retire as a stud by 6 years of age
We always aim to make this process as smooth and minimally disruptive as possible for both you and your dog.
Is Becoming a Guardian Family Right for You?
The ideal family will:
Strongly believe in the guardian program and support our breeding program
Be located within an hour drive of us (Gold Coast or Brisbane)
Be flexible and willing to work with us during breeding periods
Treat the dog as a true member of the family
Be committed to raising a well-trained, well-socialised dog
If you think you might be a great fit, we would love to hear from you.
While most of our puppies join families across the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, and Northern NSW, we can safely arrange transport to any city or regional area which has an airport with direct flights from Brisbane airport.
We work with KCR Transport to coordinate flights, ensuring your puppy travels safely and comfortably to their new home. Flight costs, including the travel crate (which is yours to keep), generally range between $300 and $400, depending on the destination.
We do not add any markup to transport costs, and we're happy to take your puppy to Brisbane Airport for their flight at no additional charge. We organise everything, but KCR Transport will invoice you directly for the flight.
